The National Strategy to Counter Violent Extremism (NSCVE) was launched at State House, Nairobi, on September 7, 2016, by President Uhuru Kenyatta, with Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery and National Counter Terrorism Centre Director Martin Kimani present at the launch.
The strategy sets out the context, rationale, and aims of Kenya's approach to countering violent extremism; analyzes the drivers, locations, and phases of radicalisation; structures CVE work around defined pillars, disengagement and reintegration programming, and national and local action; identifies stakeholder entry points across national leadership, communities and elected leaders, government ministries, departments and agencies, the private sector, civil society, and bilateral and multilateral partners; and sets out a framework for measuring CVE impact.
